Abstract

The purpose of this review was to discuss the problems of preadjusted brackets that use the play between the bracket
slot and undersized archwires as a buffer for anatomic variations of teeth. Since this play causes uncontrolled tooth
movements, various preadjusted bracket prescriptions has been suggested to reduce typical unwanted tooth movements
such as lingual crown tipping of maxillary incisors during space closure or application of Class II elastics. One-sizefits-
all concept of preadjusted brackets is unreal and might be applicable only for some typical malocclusion cases on
which the proclaimer of the prescription had focused. This problem can be solved by the use of customized brackets.
